Big Tech and Counter Technologies EU Horizon+, Bologna, Lugano and Madrid Exhibition, Book, Artist Residency

Big Tech and Counter-Technologies explores the impact of technology on shaping, spatial, political and affective cultures. Selected projects engage the materiality of techno-capitalism, questioning labour, logistics, infrastructure and digital spatialities.

This project is developed within the context of the EU Horizon + project INCA (Increasing Corporate Political Responsibility and Accountability). The initiative is co-curated by Carmen Lael Hines and Into the Black Box, with exhibitions in Bologna, Lugano and Madrid.

All Surfaces Clean at All Times Never at Home and Klima Biennale Vienna 2024 Exhibition

All surfaces clean at all times is an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring the moral and political assumptions attached to hygiene, cleanliness and sterility as communicated through architecture and design.
All surfaces clean at all times engages the exhibition format to reflect upon the architecture of the basement in a currently vacant building in Vienna’s 16th district, to consider how spaces are “imagined” through design. Through the exhibition as interface, the site-sensitive works experiment with binary assumptions of clean/dirty.

Co-curated with Clara Grillmeir and Stefan Altenriderer, All Surfaces Clean at all Times explores the moral and political assumptions attached to hygiene, cleanliness and sterility as communicated through architecture and design.

Co-curated with Roberto Majano and Adam Hudec, Bordering Plants consider how organisms with the ability to photosynthesise affirm, trouble or transgress conceptions of the border as an epistemic viewpoint.

Materia Galerie Kandlhofer, Vienna 2023 Exhibition

Materia is an audio-visual installation which seeks to excavate entangled and expanded vocabularies for redefining how art and science can collaboratively re-approach the most urgent planetary challenges of our time.The viewer is led through a series of uncanny landscapesdistributed across three visual-sound layers. These ‘worlds’ enmesh to form an evolving study of the layered past, present and future of Intelligence as an ontological lens. Created by artist Davide Bernardis (Berlin) and commissioned by Blaise Aguera y Arcas in collaboration with a team of international independent designers and scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (Dresden), and Human Technopole (Milano), Materia (Latin Noun: materia; English: substance, material) considers how we can re-imagine relations between consciousness, technology and the natural world.

The last two decades of globalisation, in conjunction with recent economic crises and emerging forms of self-organised, peer-to-peer economies, have substantially altered the relationship between the informal and formal sector, both conceptually and practically. This research hypothesises that the growing interaction between the informal and formal sphere has a transformative effect on both – leading to a formalisation of the informal sector and an ‘informalisation’ of the formal economy.

“they love the idea of me is a catalog constructing the world of a fictional protagonist named Mia. Mia’s born from an imaginary setting and merged with characteristics of the brand archetypes “naive” and “innocent”. Navigating the objects and images present(ed), the catalog lures into fantasizing about the absent inhabitant of this topography of clothing, decoration, furniture and household devices. The selection of things and situations in Mia’s fictional spaces aims to render a hyper-realistic scenario and detailed impersonation of her as the archetype, that at the same time transcends to a blueprint of a character fit for Western neoliberal paradigms.”
